Happy Smackah Fun Run 2018!

Run(or Walk) for a Good Cause While You Have FUN with Your Family

By Michele Pullo April 26, 2018

The Happy Smackah originated as a fundraising event in 2011 for Dan Cribby, a St. Vrain Valley educator who became seriously ill and required amputation of his arm and shoulder and extensive skin grafting.  Happily, he received the support he needed.  Dan and his wife, Karen continue to be a part of this Fun Run's tradition of helping other families in need.

What is a "Happy Smackah"?  If you're from Maine you probably already know, for the rest of us;

A Happy Smackah;

  • Lives with a positive attitude
  • Lives a no nonsense, no excuses life
  • Takes joy in life’s little treasures

This year's recipient represents all of these qualities.  Clara Shipp is just five years old and she's battling a disease no one else has.  She needs a feeding tube, 7 machines to keep her alive, and her prognosis is unknown.  She's a miracle, she's a fighter and she's this year's Happy Smackah!  All proceeds go to support Clara and her family.

On May 12th, hundreds of individuals and families will walk and run around McIntosh Lake to support Clara, her brother, and her mothers. They will rally support, enjoy the beautiful Colorado scenery, and donate to this family in need.  At the finish line, participants will have a chance to get a free chair massage, enjoy a burrito from Santiagos, and participate in various fun activities with other participants.  Macaroni Kid will be there with a cool kid's activity/craft!!

Register for the race at happysmackah.com, and join us for check-in between 7am-7:45am, with the start of the race at 8:00am on May 12th
