My family and I recently had the chance to visit Elitch Gardens in Denver. We had originally planned to have our kids bring a friend each, but the timing didn't work out. Sometimes things work out for the best. We went as a family, just the four of us and had the BEST time! My husband isn't much for theme parks, my teenager isn't much for well, anything without a buddy, and my little one, she's game for anything! I didn't know how the day would turn out but I was hopeful...
If you haven't been to Elitch Gardens lately, you might want to give it a try. There's something for every age! I recommend spending the extra money, if you can, and getting the Fast Pass wristbands, it made a world of difference getting on rides. There are plenty of choices from really cute kiddie rides, family style not-too-scary rides to don't-eat-before-you-go-on rides. My husband thought we should kick off our day going on the latter; Mind Eraser! I'm pretty sure it erases your mind by shaking it like an Etch a Sketch. The ride takes you upside down, sideways, and I'm not exactly sure of the other directions because I had my eyes closed! This is probably the scariest, wildest ride I've ever been on. So, for you die-hard rollercoaster fans... this is for you! Please avoid if you have any neck issues or back problems or you've just eaten.
To cool off we went on the new Meow Wolf Experience ride, which comes from the art collective/experience; Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It's a fluorescent journey in the dark with laser pointers you can use to shoot at targets throughout the ride. No points though, just enjoy the experience!
What's an amusement park without a splash of water?! My daughter and I hit Shipwreck Falls (the log ride) and were happily soaked, but the kids wanted more so we found Disaster Canyon, the whitewater rafting ride. I think that was my favorite for families. Kiddos have to be 36" to ride and they do close this ride after Labor Day, so keep it in mind for next year!
What really surprised me on our visit was the last minute stop to see the Magic Show; Smoke and Mirrors. Produced by Joey Wartnerchaney of Manhattan Creative Group, this family friendly show led by magician Seth Palmerteris was SO much better than we thought it would be. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the show. The dancers were energetic, the music was fun, and the illusions were well performed. Seth's lovely assistant, Mariah Salazar, was charming on stage and great with the kids, while dancers Ben Carrasco and Zach Kester added a fun flair to the show. I will be sure to check out next year's show and I hope you will too.
All in all, we left with happy hearts and look forward to visiting again... as a family.
Although Summer is over, Fall is a great time to visit Elitch's. Beginning in October, you can experience Family by Day, Fright by Night! Fright Fest haunted attractions are recommended for ages 12 and up.
Our visit was sponsored and gave us the opportunity to share our day with you!
