Longmont is 150 and Goin' Strong!

By Michele Pullo, publisher of Macaroni Kid Longmont-Frederick-Niwot-Lyons September 4, 2021

The name "Longmont" comes from the view of beautiful Longs Peak. Longmont was originally named  "Chicago-Colorado Colony" by the men who founded our fair city in 1871. Longmont was built on Agriculture and once the railroad arrived the city's success was all but assured. The sugar beet industry came and went, but left a legacy still reflected throughout Longmont.

Modern Longmont blossomed with the coming of the Tech industry. Although our city has a storied past (as many do), we strive to move forward with a thriving art community, excellent schools, and so many great family festivals throughout the year.

Learn more about Longmont's history at the Longmont Museum's "Longmont 150" exhibit, August 7th through January 9th, 2022.

Ways to celebrate Longmont's birthday;

* Attend ArtWalk on September 11th downtown Longmont
* Take a walk on Main Street and step into a few downtown businesses you've never visited
* Pay it Forward! Help a neighbor, buy a coffee for the person in line behind you, buy local, and look for the good in our little town
